Promise Me. Chapter 2 - Home.

Jacob’s POV.

It’s almost been a month now since I’ve seen Courtney. I’m aching for her touch. I’m literally falling apart without her around. I can’t sleep, I can’t eat.

Courtney’s POV.

I sit on the stairs in front of the house every night, just hoping Jacob would come home. Hoping I would wrap my arms around his body and kiss the kiss out of him very soon. I would wait every single night, sometimes I’ll wait till the sun would rise. I watch as the beautiful streaks of orange, red and yellow paint the horizon. Minutes turn into hours, hours into days, days into months, and not a while longer, years.
It’s been five years now. I don’t think I should wait for him any longer. It just seems like, a waste of my time.

Jacob’s POV.

White light bounced across the walls to brighten the slightly bigger than double bedroom; illuminating the clothes strewn across the floor and the books squashed beside the bed. The distinguishable sounds of the Boston streets were faint only to be interrupted by the definitive beeping of my bedside alarm. I stumbled out of bed, upon the wall hung that large white calendar. On that day's date in particular there was a large message written in bright red marker;

Home.

I buried my face in my hands for awhile. I looked up and saw a note on my suitcase, which I neatly packed last night. I grabbed it.

We’ll miss you Jake. Just give us a call when you want us to visit, we can’t wait to see Courtney too. Riley and I would always be your best guys.
Love, Dave & Riles.

I smiled at the small piece of white paper and thought ‘I can’t wait to see Courtney either’.

Courtney’s POV.

Mike slowly leaned in and placed his lips against mine. It was weird I didn’t stop him, it was weird I kind of enjoyed it. I cupped his face and kissed him back. His hands ran up my stomach. I slowly closed my eyes as I breathed in deeply, and I suddenly thought, Jacob, I quickly opened my eyes and pushed Mike away, causing him to fall off the bed.
“Oh my god,” I said covering my mouth with both hands.
“I’m sorry, I just, I can’t,” I continued.
I grabbed my jacket and fast-walked towards the door.
Mike grabbed my arm. “Court,”
I jerked my arm away and walked out the door. Mike chased after me.
“Court, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to kiss you,” he explained.
I turned around and I looked at him sternly, “you didn’t mean to? Or you wanted to?”
He stood there in silence.
“That’s what I thought,” I spat. I ran down the stairs, out the door and finally got into my car.
“Court!” he ran towards the car. “Courtney, open the door, let me explain,”
I quickly turned on the engine and drove off. I can’t believe this, I kissed Mike, My best friend, more worse, Jacob’s friend.

The day turned into night, I sat outside on the porch, as usual, under a blanket, looking up into the sky, where beautiful stars were aligned. I remember the first date me and Jacob ever had.

“hey,” greeted Jacob, walking towards her.
“hey,” said Courtney, warmly.
“I wrote you a song, right after I met you yesterday,” he said.
“Jake, you—“
Jacob sat down next to her and started strumming.
“Her name is Courtney Shay, She has dark, brown hair, that is usually pulled into a ponytail, draped over her shoulder, I’ve been enjoying every day, of my life cause now she’s here to stay, I think, I’m in love, I could stare into those blue-green eyes forever.”
He continued singing and strumming, Courtney smiled at him, she knew at that moment; Jacob was the guy for her. They belonged together. She fell for him, hard and fast.

I just loved how straight forward he was. When something popped into that obnoxious head of his, he would just say it. Sigh. I know I’m in love with Jacob, but, Mike has been there for me through whatever. I’m just so confused.
I saw Mike’s car pull over in front of my house. He got out and walked towards me. He then sat next to me.
“can I please explain things?” he asked, breaking the silence.
“what is there to explain Mike?” I replied, not looking at him.
He gently took my hand and put it on his chest. “can you feel it?”
I looked at my hand, and I shook my head.
“My heart skips beats just because I’m here, with you, I’m falling for you Courtney,” He tried to make me look at him,
“Courtney, please,”
I finally looked at him, and I slowly leaned forward, till I felt his cold lips against mine. I pulled away, I smiled. He opened his mouth, but no words came out.
I just giggled and said “I’ll give you that chance, because I think I’m falling for you too,”
He smiled wide, “thank you Courtney, I don’t know what I’d do without you,” he continued.
I laughed and kissed him a second time.

Jacob’s POV.

I stood there, at the end of our driveway, watching Mike and Courtney push their tongues down in each others’ throats. My whole world fell apart, everything was a big blur. My heart broke into a million pieces. My first intention was to grab Mike and tell him he’s not worthy, but that’s just makes me unworthy. So I turned around and slowly walked back into the cab. I told the driver to drive back to the airport. I’m going back to Boston.
