Jacob’s POV.
I stood there next to Andy with my hand on his shoulder. Trevor, James, Massie, Kim and Nolan were there next to us. Everyone was close in this part of Seattle, anyone were rarely enemies. Also Matthew, Derrick, Stephanie and some other classmates were there. Grief was all in the air. The priest was talking but there were only a few who were able to listen to him. The others were too lost. The funeral ended eventually. Most of the people left. The only ones who stayed were Andy, Me, Trevor and Massie. I wonder where Courtney was, she’s supposed to be here, with Mike.
Courtney’s POV.
I watched as people walked away from Ashleey’s grave. I needed to go see her.
“babe, Come on, let’s go pay our respects,” Mike said.
I nodded my head, looked down and walked towards them. When Mike and I reached there, Jacob looked away like he was trying to avoid me. I couldn’t care for Jacob now; it’s Ashleey I should be thinking of. And when that thought came to my mind, tears started filling my eyes. Jacob and Andy were pale, Jacob’s eyes were red. He just looked on the ground. He knew Ashleey his whole life. She was one of his best friends. She was the one who has always understood him without need of words. She was always there for him, the beautiful, selfless, big-hearted, Ashleey Overstreet. And now she was gone. He was crushed. Nolan hugged Massie. She was crying like a baby. Ashleey died long before her time. She did not deserve this. She deserved to be with her friends, meet the love of her life, get married, have kids and be the happiest person in the world. And now, she was dead. And I just couldn’t believe that she was, I loved her with my whole heart. She sacrificed her happiness for mine, she was the one who comforted me when Jake left, the only one who I let in deep. My tears were still falling and I took Mike’s hand.
Jacob’s POV.
Courtney finally cracked, she was crying uncontrollably, just like when I left her. I wanted to be the one to hold her. Andy knelt to the ground, putting his hand on Ashleey’s stone.
“I’m so sorry Ashleey, I’m so so sorry, this is all my fault, I should’ve been with you, saving you like I promised,” he continued to cry.
I knelt down next to Andy and rubbed his back, “Let it out, man,”
He leaned his head on her gravestone, just breaking down.
Courtney’s POV.
Hours had passed since the funeral. It was night already. I wanted to be alone, so after the funeral, Mike followed Matt and the others home. After we left the graveyard, I just drove around without direction. I drove for hours. I was finally home now. The moment I got into the house, so many memories filled my mind. Suddenly, I went into the closet and took the box with my letters. I started reading them one by one. 65 letters I wrote, explaining the way I felt about him, the love I had for him, to Jacob. I just closed my eyes and stayed like that for a few moments. I heard a knock on the door and went to open it. Mike was standing there. He looked more like a ghost than like himself.
“Mike, I need to be alone.. please..” I said.
“I know, I just, wanted to tell you that, I love you,” he said softly.
I nodded and hugged him. Mike went home. I was alone in my room. I love Mike. I love him more than words could explain, but I knew that I was also in love with someone else. A single tear fell from my eye.
